Frequently Asked Questions

What is Overlanders Xperience (OX)?

Overlanders Xperience (OX) is a multi-day off-road navigation and adventure event designed for drivers, co-drivers, families, and outdoor enthusiasts. OX combines off-road competition, guided exploration, camping, and community activities into a single experience.

While OX includes competitive categories, it is also open to participants who want to explore trails, camp, and enjoy off-road adventure without competing.

Is Overlanders Xperience only a competition?

No. Overlanders Xperience is not only a competition.

OX offers both competitive and non-competitive experiences. Participants may choose to compete, join guided routes, camp with their families, explore nearby points of interest, or attend as spectators. The event is designed to welcome people with different experience levels and goals.

What type of event is OX?

Overlanders Xperience is an organized off-road navigation adventure where participants must follow a series of waypoints within a predetermined distance and time frame. Teams work to overcome terrain obstacles and technical challenges while aiming to accumulate the lowest number of penalty points in order to win the Xperience.

The event typically takes place over two or three days of driving, with two or more nights of camping, creating a complete outdoor and community experience.

OX is not a speed race, and it is not a guided trip. Participants must navigate independently between checkpoints using a roadbook provided by the organization. Teams are responsible for managing their route, time, and strategy within the established limits.

Between checkpoints, teams may encounter special challenges designed to test navigation, driving skills, recovery techniques, and teamwork. Failure to complete these challenges results in penalties, which directly affect the final results.

This format makes Overlanders Xperience a true test of navigation, decision-making, and team coordination, rather than pure speed.

What are the OX categories?

Xtreme Class

Xtreme Class is the most demanding category in OX. It was created by merging the former Modified and Standard Pro categories into a single, more competitive division.

This category is designed for experienced off-road teams with:

  • 35” to 37” tires

  • Snorkel and winch

  • Proper recovery equipment

  • Solid navigation skills

  • Strong teamwork between driver, co-driver and crew members

Routes are technical and challenging, requiring strategy, recovery skills, and decision-making under pressure.

Adventure Class

Adventure Class is the evolution of the former Tourism Pro category.

It is ideal for drivers who want a challenge without extreme vehicle modifications.

This category focuses on:

  • Navigation and route planning

  • Technical driving

  • Teamwork and strategy

Due to Florida’s terrain and weather conditions, equipment such as a winch and a snorkel is highly recommended. While not mandatory, these components help prevent engine damage from water crossings and improve self-recovery in muddy or remote sections.

Adventure Class is perfect for participants who want to push their skills while still enjoying the experience.

Discovery Class

Discovery Class is designed for beginners, families, and participants who want to enjoy OX at a relaxed pace.

Participants may join with:

  • 4x4 vehicles

  • Side by Sides (SxS)

  • ATVs

This category allows participants to explore, observe other categories, enjoy guided routes, and experience OX without competitive pressure.

Participants are welcome to attend, camp, and enjoy the full OX experience with any type of vehicle, including sedans.
However, a 4x4 vehicle is mandatory to participate in the guided routes and on-course activities.

Do I need a highly modified vehicle to participate?

No. OX offers categories for different vehicle setups and experience levels.

Highly modified vehicles are required only for Xtreme Class. Adventure and Discovery classes allow stock or lightly modified vehicles, making OX accessible to a wide range of participants.

Can beginners participate in OX?

Yes. Beginners are welcome.

Discovery Class and guided routes are designed specifically for participants who are new to off-road driving or navigation. These options allow beginners to learn, explore, and enjoy the event in a safe and organized environment.

Is OX family-friendly?

Yes. Overlanders Xperience is a family-friendly event.

Families are welcome to camp together, explore the area, watch special challenges, and enjoy outdoor activities. Many participants attend OX as a weekend camping and adventure experience with their families.

What is the guided route experience?

Guided routes are non-competitive routes designed for participants who want to explore trails and scenic areas without competing.

These routes focus on:

  • Safe off-road driving

  • Scenic exploration

  • Outdoor enjoyment

Guided routes are ideal for families, beginners, and participants who want a relaxed off-road adventure.

What is the OX Quest?

OX Quest is an exploration activity within the event that encourages participants to discover nearby points of interest, scenic locations, and natural landmarks around the camp area.

It adds an element of adventure and discovery beyond competition and helps participants experience the region where the event takes place.

Can spectators attend Overlanders Xperience?

Yes. Spectators are welcome at OX.

Spectators can watch special challenges, explore the camp area, interact with participants, and enjoy the overall atmosphere of the event even if they are not driving.

What is the camping experience like?

Camping is a core part of the Overlanders Xperience and takes place at the official base camp, where participants, teams, and event activities are centralized.

The base camp offers:

  • A food truck on site, providing meals during the event

  • Portable restrooms (porta potties)

  • Showers provided by the off-road park

Camping at OX is considered semi-primitive. There is no permanent electricity or water hookups, so participants must bring everything needed for their own camping setup.

Many participants choose to camp in:

  • Ground tents

  • Roof-top tents

  • Campers or RVs (self-contained units)

By camping at base camp, participants enjoy:

  • A strong community atmosphere shared with other teams and families

  • Direct access to routes, checkpoints, and event activities

  • The opportunity to watch Pole Position stages and special challenges from the competitive categories taking place around the camp area

In addition to driving activities, camping participants can:

  • Take part in the OX Quest, exploring nearby points of interest

  • Join the guided route for relaxed exploration

  • Enjoy evening social interaction and community gatherings

  • Attend the Saturday night raffle and awards ceremony, a central moment of the event

Camping at OX is not just a place to stay overnight. It is where the community comes together, experiences are shared, and participants fully immerse themselves in the Overlanders Xperience.

Are there activities besides driving?

Yes. In addition to driving, OX includes:

  • Special challenges

  • Guided exploration

  • OX Quest activities

  • Social and community experiences

This makes OX a complete off-road and outdoor adventure.

Is navigation important in OX?

Yes. Navigation is a fundamental and essential element of Overlanders Xperience, especially in the competitive categories.

The entire competition is based on accurate route navigation and on correctly meeting the exact time and distance requirements established in the official roadbook. Teams are not racing against speed, but against precision, timing, and accuracy.

Participants must correctly interpret the roadbook, follow the planned routes, manage distance and time, and make strategic decisions in order to avoid penalties. Because of this format, strong navigation skills are essential for good performance in OX.

This navigation-based structure is what clearly differentiates Overlanders Xperience from traditional off-road races and speed-based events.

Has OX organized expeditions or VIP trips?

Yes. Overlanders Xperience has organized exclusive VIP overland expeditions, including two successful trips to Utah.

These trips focus on scenic routes, small groups, exploration, and premium experiences, reflecting the broader vision of OX beyond competitions.

Where does Overlanders Xperience take place?

OX events take place in different locations, primarily in Florida and Georgia, depending on the event edition. Each location is selected for its off-road terrain, scenic value, and camping opportunities.

How do I register or get more information?

Registration details, schedules, and updates are available on the official Overlanders Xperience website. Visitors can also follow OX on social media for announcements and event updates.

Why is Overlanders Xperience different from other off-road events?

OX combines:

  • Off-road navigation rallies

  • Competitive and non-competitive options

  • Family-friendly camping

  • Guided exploration

  • Strong community focus

This combination makes Overlanders Xperience more than just a race; it is a complete off-road adventure experience.
